This means we spend a lot of time thinking from both angles about what makes a standout product.
So, in pursuit of knowledge and the betterment of the product engineering discipline – we’re launching Above the Line to uncover product, engineering, and design fundamentals from our own work and startups we admire.
Why now?
2025 is the year of "AI at the product layer". Vibe coding has made it easier than ever to validate a value prop, and everyone's doing it. Yet as with any hype cycle, there's a swarm of buzzwords, misunderstood technologies, square pegs and round holes.
Coined terms like "deep research", "hyper-personalization", and "AEO" make noise on your favorite podcasts and newsletters, but evergreen product fundamentals are obscured among this speak. We aim to get into the weeds and distill down how contemporary startups are actually building with AI to arrive at true lasting value.
